01. OK Jaanu
The 2017 film OK Jaanu stars the modern romantic pair of Bollywood Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.The film portraits the story of a young energetic couple in a live-in relationship.This was actually the remake of the 2015 romantic bilingual film ‘OK Kanmani’ released both in Tamil and Malayalam.Directed by Mani Ratnam, film has Dulquer Salman and Nithya Menen in lead roles.
The 2015 thriller Drishyam starring Ajay Devgn,Shriya Saran and Tabu was acclaimed by critics as the best Bollywood attempts of the year.It was actually the remake of the much remarked blockbuster Malayalam film of the same title conceived by Jeetu Joseph.In-fact with global appreciation,the Mohanlal-Meena starrer has been remade into five other languages too.
A Rohit Shetty directorial with Ajay Devgn in the lead role Singham was a 2011 box-office success.It was the remake of the 2010 Tamil action thriller ‘Singam’ starring Surya revolves around the life of an honest police officer.Like the Tamil sequel Singam II,this one too had a sequel named ‘Singham Returns’.
The official remake of the successful 2003 flick by Gautam Menon starring the real-life couples Surya and Jyothika, Force had a star pair of John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza. The film released in 2011 also had a sequel named ‘Force 2’ in which Genelia was replaced by Sonakshi Sinha.
Salman Khan starrer 2011 romantic action flick Bodyguard directed by Siddique also has Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hazel Keech in important roles.It was the remake of the 2010 Malayalam film of the same name starring Dileep and Nayanthara, set around a misunderstood love connection between a bodyguard and the woman he is sworn to protect.
A 2009 Prabhudeva directorial Wanted with Salman Khan,Ayesha Takia and Prakash Raj in lead roles was a success and got many awards.It was actually the remake of the Telugu film ‘Pokiri’ which also got remade in few more languages including Tamil,Kannada,Bengali etc.
The 2009 comedy-drama Billu directed by Priyadarshan starring Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta in lead roles also has Superstar ShahRukh Khan in guest role.The film which was the remake of the 2007 blockbuster ‘Kadha Parayumbol’ starring Sreenivasan and Mammooty in lead roles.
The 2008 psychological thriller Ghajini starring Amir Khan and Asin in lead roles directed by A.R.Murugadoss shares the life of a rich businessman, who has the inability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, and is driven by the desire to exact revenge on the goon that killed his girlfriend. It was the remake of the 2005 Tamil flick with the same name starring Surya and Asin, which was also written and directed by Murugadoss.
09. Bhool Bhulaiyaa
The 2007 horror comedy hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa directed by Priyadarshan has Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in lead roles.This Box-office success was the remake of the 1993 classic ‘Manichithrathazhu’ by Fazil starring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana. One of the best ever Malayalam film,it has been remade into more than five languages even after 10 years of its initial release.
10. Garam Masala
Akshay Kumar and John Abraham in Garam Masala in-acted the roles of Mohanlal and Mukesh respectively in the 2005 remake of the 1985 comical flick ‘Boeing Boeing’ which was directed by Priyadarshan in both versions.They played a couple of womanizers who try to date three women simultaneouslywhich was remade further in two more languages.
The 2005 film Run starring Abhishek Bachchan and Bhumika Chawla was directed by Jeeva, is best known for the comedy sequences. A remake of the Tamil blockbuster film of the same name, which stars R. Madhavan, Meera Jasmine and Raghuvaran in the lead roles.
The 2002 romantic drama Saathiya produced by Mani Ratnam and Yash Chopra has Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukerji playing the romantic leads. With A.R. Rahman composing the soundtrack, it was the remake of the Tamil film ‘Alaipayuthey’, which was co-written, co-produced and directed by Mani Ratnam.
