On May 16, 2014 Modi Government came to Power, from that time they have managed to come up with various welfare schemes and few of the top public welfare schemes are:
1. Make in India
Make in India is an initiative launched by the Government of India to encourage multi-national, as well as national companies to manufacture their products in India. It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 September 2014. India would emerge, after initiation of the program in 2015, as the top destination globally for foreign direct investment, surpassing the United States of America as well as China.
2. Smart City Mission
Modi government announced the names of 98 cities which were selected for smart city project. Smart cities are projected to be equipped with basic infrastructure and will offer a good quality of life through smart solutions. Assured water and power supply, sanitation and solid waste management, efficient urban mobility and public transport, robust IT connectivity, e-governance and citizen participation along with safety of its citizens are some of the likely attributes of these smart cities. It is a flagship project of the Modi government for which the Union Cabinet has announced 48000 crores. The Union Development Ministry too has proposed to provide 100 crores over the next five years.
3. Skill India
Modi said that India Should emerge as Human Resource Capital as China has become the ‘manufacturing factory’ Skill India is one of the projects of Modi government to fight against poverty. NDA government said it will work towards equipping over 40 crore people with adequate skills by 2022.
4. Swachh Bharath
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national campaign by the Modi government, covering 4,041 cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country.
It was officially launched on 2 October 2014 at New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself cleaned the road. It was performed in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi’s words. It is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive and 3 million government employees and school and college students of India participated in this event.
Domestic LPG is heavily subsidized by the Government of India and every cylinder that we use in our kitchen carries a substantial subsidy. This translates to a huge annual subsidy burden on the Government,
Modi Government has launched the GiveItUp campaign which is aimed at motivating LPG users who can afford to pay the market price for LPG to voluntarily surrender their LPG subsidy. This money will be used in helping the poor.
6. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
is National Mission for Financial Inclusion to ensure access to financial services, namely Banking Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner. This financial inclusion campaign was launched by the Narendra Modi on 28 August 2014. Run by Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, on the inauguration day, 1.5 Crore (15 million) bank accounts were opened under this scheme. Guinness World Records Certificate says “The most bank accounts opened in 1 week as a part of financial inclusion campaign is 18,096,130 and was achieved by Banks in India from 23 to 29 August 2014”. By 10 February 2016, over 20 crore bank accounts were opened and Rs. 323.78 billion were deposited under the scheme.
7. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jothi Bheema Yojana
This scheme will be linked to the bank accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme. Most of these account had zero balance initially. The government aims to reduce the number of such zero balance accounts by using this and related schemes.
radhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is available to people between 18 and 50 years of age with bank accounts. It has an annual premium of ₹330 which is above 14% of the premium. The amount will be automatically debited from the account. In case of death due to any cause, the payment to the nominee will be ₹2 lakh.
