Awarapan 2 leads Batwara 1947 by 81% in advance booking as Emraan Hashmi's film gains an early box office advantage.
Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 are set for a box office clash on August 14, just ahead of the Independence Day holiday. While both films are arriving with their own audience pull, early advance booking trends indicate that Awarapan 2 has established a clear lead over its rival.
The clash is particularly interesting because the two films are relying on different strengths. Awarapan 2 benefits from the nostalgia surrounding the 2007 cult favourite Awarapan and Emraan Hashmi’s established fan base. Batwara 1947, meanwhile, is banking heavily on Sunny Deol’s mass appeal and its potential to attract family and single-screen audiences.
Awarapan 2 Leads Batwara 1947 in Advance Booking
The initial ticket sales have given Awarapan 2 a significant advantage before the films reach theatres.
According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Awarapan 2 had sold around 68,000 tickets, generating approximately ₹2.20 crore through advance bookings. Batwara 1947, in comparison, had sold around 37,600 tickets.
That puts Awarapan 2 roughly 81% ahead in ticket sales, giving the Emraan Hashmi starrer a stronger position heading into its opening day.
Bala believes the early advantage is largely being driven by the nostalgia factor attached to Awarapan and the actor's loyal fan following. However, he also pointed out that Batwara 1947 could benefit from Sunny Deol's strong connection with mass audiences.
Trade Expects Awarapan 2 to Open Bigger
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel has also predicted a stronger opening for Awarapan 2.
According to his estimates, the film could earn around ₹13-16 crore net on its opening day, with the possibility of reaching ₹20 crore if it gets stronger showcasing at single-screen theatres.
For the opening weekend, Kadel has projected a collection of around ₹50-60 crore for Awarapan 2.
Batwara 1947, meanwhile, is expected to open in the range of ₹7-9 crore net on Friday.
If these projections hold, Awarapan 2 could potentially open at close to twice the level of Batwara 1947, although the final result will depend on audience response and the number of shows allotted to each film.
National Chains Also Favour Emraan Hashmi's Film
The difference is even more noticeable in advance sales across major national cinema chains.
Kadel said Awarapan 2 had sold approximately 35,000 tickets across PVR INOX and Cinepolis, while Batwara 1947 had managed around 8,000 tickets across the same chains.
The trade analyst expects Awarapan 2's final advance booking at national multiplex chains to reach approximately 1-1.30 lakh tickets. Batwara 1947, on the other hand, is projected to finish below 35,000 tickets.
This suggests that Awarapan 2 is currently generating substantially stronger interest among multiplex audiences.
Can Batwara 1947 Change the Box Office Battle?
Despite the early gap, the Independence Day weekend gives both films an opportunity to perform strongly. Batwara 1947 has Sunny Deol's mass following working in its favour, particularly in single-screen markets and among family audiences.
Awarapan 2, meanwhile, enters the competition with a clear advantage in advance bookings, nostalgia and multiplex interest.
The early numbers therefore put Awarapan 2 firmly ahead before release, but the real box office battle will begin once audiences watch both films. Word of mouth, reviews, show allocation and walk-in audiences could still influence how the Independence Day weekend ultimately unfolds.
